When buying a vehicle from one of our Kansas or Missouri auctions, you should ALWAYS check the Documentation Type field on the vehicle detail page. This page is only intended to be used as a guideline. Please visit your local DMV for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Public buyers (buyers without a dealer, wholesale, dismantler, or recycler license) should only purchase vehicles with a Title listed as the documentation type. Vehicles with “Lien Sale” or “Bill of Sale” listed as the Documentation Type are reserved for licensed buyers. Without a license, you WILL NOT be able to register your purchase.
Title
For vehicles with a Title, titling and registration of an Autura Marketplace purchase can work exactly as it would if the car was purchased from a dealer or a private party. The instructions are as follows:
- Apply for Title and Registration: Kansas law requires you to apply for a certificate of title and registration within 60 days of the vehicle's purchase date.
- Required Documentation: The vehicle title assigned to you, proof of Kansas auto insurance and a sales tax receipt or bill of sale.
- Visit your local county treasurer’s motor vehicle office to submit all required documents and payments.
This information is intended only as a guideline. Please visit your local motor vehicle office or https://www.ksrevenue.gov/dovindex.html for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Title (Salvage)
If you receive a salvage title upon purchase, additional steps are necessary to title and register the vehicle:
- Repair the vehicle to meet Kansas safety and operational standards.
- Obtain a Salvage, Non-highway, or Non-Repairable Vehicle Affidavit (Form TR-13): Complete this form to declare the vehicle's status.
- Vehicle Inspection: After repairs, the vehicle must pass a Motor Vehicle Examination (MVE-1) conducted by the Kansas Highway Patrol or a designated inspection station to verify its roadworthiness.
- Apply for a Rebuilt Salvage Title by submitting the following documentation to your local county treasurer’s office: Title and Registration Manual Application (Form TR-212a), Completed Form TR-13, Original Salvage Title, MVE-1 Inspection Certificate, and Proof of Insurance.
- Pay any applicable fees.
Once the rebuilt salvage title is issued, proceed with registering the vehicle to obtain license plates and legal authorization to operate the vehicle on Kansas roads.
