When purchasing a vehicle from one of our auctions in Arizona, there are a couple of different documentation types you’ll run into.
When you are researching a car, ALWAYS look at the documentation type in the vehicle detail page. This will ensure you are prepared for any additional steps you need to follow in order to obtain a title and register the vehicle.
Title
If the vehicle you purchase in one of our Arizona auctions has the documentation type “Title”, this is a general guideline on how to register:
Important note: Abandoned vehicles sold at auction in Arizona will be marked as “c-box” titles. This means the mileage is “not the actual milage” even if mileage is presented on the VDP and dash.
- Apply for Title and Registration: Arizona law requires you to apply for a new title within 15 days of purchase. To do so, complete the title and registration form (Form 96-0236).
- Provide Necessary Documentation: This includes the assigned vehicle title signed by the seller, a bill of sale (optional but recommended for additional proof of purchase), and an emissions compliance form if applicable.
- Provide proof of Arizona insurance.
- Submit Documentation and Fees: Visit an MVD office or an authorized third-party provider to submit your application, documentation, and fees.

Title (Salvage)
If you purchased a vehicle with with the documentation type Title (Salvage), additional steps are required to restore the title and register the vehicle:
- Repair the vehicle to meet safety and operational standards.
- Compile Repair Documentation: Keep receipts and documentation for all major components used in the repair.
- Obtain a Level II Vehicle Inspection: Schedule and pass a Level II inspection with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to verify the vehicle's identity and ensure it meets safety standards.
- Apply for a Restored Salvage Title: Submit the following to an MVD or authorized third-party office: Title and Registration Application (Form 96-0236), Proof of ownership (salvage title) assigned to you, Level II inspection certificate, Repair receipts and documentation, and Proof of Arizona insurance.
- Submit documentation and pay applicable fees at the local MVD office.
